چکیده

This article discusses the mechanisms of particle deposition onto cleanroom surfaces. The main mechanism for particles above about 0.5μm is gravitational settling. Turbulent deposition and electrostatic attraction can also occur at all particle sizes, and for particles below 0.5μm Brownian diffusion is important. Measurements of particle deposition rates (PDRs) were made of particles 10μm on witness plates orientated in different directions and exposed in different ventilation conditions, and it was concluded that over 80% of particles were deposited by gravitational sedimentation, and probably more than half of the remainder by turbulent deposition.

Airborne particle deposition in cleanrooms: Calculation of product contamination and required cleanroom class

This is the third and final article in a series that discusses the deposition of airborne particles onto critical surfaces in cleanrooms. This article explains a method for calculating the amount of particle or microbe-carrying particle deposition onto critical cleanroom surfaces, such as product, and a method for calculating the airborne particle cleanliness class, or airborne microbial concen...

Airborne particle deposition in cleanrooms: Relationship between deposition rate and airborne concentration

This article is the second of a series that discusses the deposition of airborne particles onto cleanroom surfaces. It investigates the relationship between the airborne concentration of a range of cumulative sizes of particles and the particle deposition rate (PDR) onto cleanroom surfaces, through knowledge of the deposition velocity of particles in air. The deposition velocity of a range of c...

Calculation of airborne cleanliness and air supply rate for non-unidirectional airflow cleanrooms

When designing a cleanroom to achieve a required airborne cleanliness standard or grade, such as specified in ISO 1464411 or the European Union Guidelines to Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GGMP)2, designers have difficulties deciding how much filtered air should be supplied to the cleanroom to achieve the correct airborne cleanliness requirement. Currently, this decision is based on experience...

Particle Deposition in the Lung

The deposition of aerosol in the lung is an important issue regardless of whether the aerosol results from airborne pollutants or aerosol therapy. The specific pattern of deposition of airborne pollutants is a determinant in the development of pulmonary diseases since this pattern determines the local doses in the airspaces and the subsequent redistribution and clearance of the deposited partic...

MODELING OF ASPHALTENE DEPOSITION IN PIPELINES

This paper is concerned with asphaltene deposition in fluid flowing through pipelines. Brownian diffusion and drag, gravitational, thermophoresis, buoyancy, and shear removal are considered as possible mechanisms in the asphaltene deposition process. The thermo-physical properties of the fluid were obtained from Iranian oil fields. A model was used in the pipeline deposition modeling to predict...
